Deathmas Day Two: Old-School Death Metal

I could be a lazy fuck and use the same introduction I used yesterday... but I'm afraid some of you may not know it. The idea is the same. Since we're approaching the 1 year mark (it might be today, I don't know), I thought it'd be nice to make two big posts for both Christmas days. Today we're dealing with the Old-School side of Death, since yesterday I finished the subgenres.

.1: The Autopsy Chapter
Autopsy have a certain style of rotting Death metal mixed with Doom moments that got me since the first time I listened to them. I know most of you will probably be dissapointed that Mental Funeral isn't here, but I simply haven't listened to it yet. Anyway, these two records have the same style as the other albums I posted a while ago, so enjoy.

.2: The Grave Chapter
Grave is another band I haven't touched until recently, but when I heard these two albums I knew I had to post them here. In my opinion, Out Of Respect For The Dead is a bit better than Into The Grave, but both are great.

.3: The Echelon Chapter
When you put together 5 Death metal masters and have them assembly line music, what can go wrong? In this case, absolutely nothing. These two albums are unbelievably good, the great solos being the ones that stand out thye most.

.4: The Random Chapter

7. Obituary - World Demise
Have you ever listened to Obituary? If you have, you mostly know what lies under World Demise's artwork. This album is a very fast and furious record, featuring some weird-ass effects and an outro I still can't fully explain.

8. Asphyx - The Rack
Incoming Death is definetly one of the best albums released in 2016, and the band's debut record brings back everything you loved here. It's all here, the fast Death parts, the rotting Doom moments, the brilliant vocals, the great songs, all morphing into the majestically brytalo storm that is Asphyx.

.5: The Similar Chapter
To be honest, I've worked my mind for the past days trying to figure out something special about each album in this chapter, but all I managed to find was ONE defining quality for all these albums, and that is being incredible OSDM albums. Anyway, I figured it would be a bit boring for you to read that 7 times until the end of the article, so I filed them all under this criteria.

Deathmas Day One: Death Metal Subgenres

No matter how dead inside you are, Christmas is pretty special. I mean it. And even if this year nothing will probably make me feel less cold (maybe except the warm feel of shots), that doesn't mean we can't be a bit festive about Metal Hut finally hitting 1 year. I know I haven't been consistent in posting, and this new format probably doesn't please everybody, but fuck it.
This Christmas I'm focusing solely on Death and Death alone, and today you're getting albums that belong to subgenreslike Brutal DM, TechDeath, MeloDeath or Progressive DM.

.1: The Children of Bodom Chapter
Since we're rapidly approaching the 1 year anniversary, I figured this should be mostly about about bands I tragically neglected in the past. The clearest of this examples are Finnish masters, Children of Bodom. Definetly my favourite MeloDeath band in the roster, their only competition being Amon Amarth or Insomnium.

.2: The Obscura Chapter
It was about time to finish these guys' discography, wasn't it?! Obscura definetly destroy most of the competition when it comes to TechDeath. Right now, I can't really think of another group that brings so many amazing things to the table. Even if Akróasis is still my favourite, there's no question when it comes to the greatness of these two albums.

.3: The Carcass Chapter
If you ever found yourself wondering where were Carcass's Necroticism and Heartwork, don't worry, they simply weren't here. Until now! Honestly, I have no idea how I managed to avoid listening to these two after I fell in love with Surgical Steel. It's taken me a long time, but here I am. Both are very good, but my heart still belongs to Surgical Steel. Way more catchy.

.4: The Random Chapter

11. At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Slaughter of the Soul is often said to be the album that gave birth to metalcore, but that doesn't mean it isn't great. Fuck, it's such a classic that most of you must know it already. So stop reading and just download it. Only question is how did I get so far without listening to it...

12. Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Back here, where I'm slowly building up to Opeth's full discography. Ghost Reveries is probably theirs best known album, maybe second only to Blackwater Park. The whole record can be summed up in the first and most beloved song here, Ghost of Perdition: brutal and beautiful at the same time.

13. Cryptopsy - None So Vile
The old TechDeath classic, which, again you all know. If I really work m mind, I can find a downside. When I describe Death metal to my non-metal friends, I call the vocals "grohi-groh". Yeah, the vocals are only grohi-groh on this album and it can get old quickly. But, aside from that, killer record.

14. Necrovile - Engorging the Devourmental Void
Necrovile is one of my latest prides, but also one of my latest regrets. I love them because they are another band that help put Romania on the map when it comes to top-notch Brutal DM, but I feel ashamed because I haven't given them enough attention until now. Since they are coming to REF next year, any romanian deather owes it to himself to listen to Engorging the Devourmental Void.

15. Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Unquestionable Presence is an experience. Everything on this album is beyond crazy good. Every member's talent is on full display thanks to the way this album sounds. Every song is an A+. I'm lost for words when thinking about this record. The way I felt when I first heard it was similar to listening to Cealta parte, which you may know is, to this day, my favourite Romanian album.
